Fishing on Rainy Lake is a dream come true for all anglers. Few lakes in the world can offer walleye, northern pike, the best smallmouth fishing, black crappies, and muskies for your fishing experience. The walleye and smallmouth bass fishing is truly incredible. Many professional anglers rank Rainy Lake as the very top multi-specie lake in the world. There are incredible amounts of walleyes, from eating to trophy size. Rainy Lake has had the most successful slot limit in the State of Minnesota since 1994. The results have gone beyond anybody’s dreams. There is no slow time period for fishing at Rainy Lake!

Action starts with a bang in May and continues into October. Walleyes start biting in the shallow bays soon after ice-out. During mid-June a portion of the walleyes will move out on Rainy Lake’s numerous reefs, sunken islands and points. Many stay shallow throughout the season. Early season northern pike is spectacular. The pike cruise the shallow bays and points for over a month providing great action on both lures and flies. May and the first two weeks of June may be the best opportunity for that trophy northern pike. In September the pike roll back into the shallows and the casting and trolling action heats up again.

The smallmouth bass fishery is truly magnificent!

Rainy Lake is one of the top five lakes in the world for smallmouth bass. Whether it’s fly rod, spinning gear, or live bait the action is good from mid-May through September, with some of the giants caught during the fall color season. Take Rainy Lake’s incredible wilderness beauty into account and it easily becomes the world’s finest smallmouth lake.

With variety like this you can see how Rainy Lake’s 1,500 miles of shoreline and 1,200 islands provide an unending supply of angling opportunities. World-class fishing is available literally from the front door of a Rainy Lake Houseboat!
