Our season begins on the Minnesota walleye fishing opener, Saturday May10. May and early June provide spectacular shallow water fishing opportunities for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and black crappie. Massive populations of game fish move into the shallow bays after ice-out. Spring provides the best spin, bait, and fly casting opportunities of the year. Spring is great for wildlife viewing. The eagles and loons are all staying in close proximity to their nesting sites. Large amounts of waterfowl use Rainy Lake for nesting. Average high temperature is 68 degrees in May and 73 degrees in June.
